2021 PZM Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland statement

Due to the ongoing impacts of Covid-19 in Poland, the PZM, the FIM and BSI Speedway have together decided to cancel the 2021 Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland, scheduled to take place on 7 August 2021 at the PGE Narodowy stadium.

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Warsaw at PGE Narodowy will not take place in 2021. Solutions as to the further handling of tickets will be taken and announced to the public within the next 60 days.

2021 PZM Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland was originally scheduled to May 16, 2020. Due to the pandemic, on March 24, 2020, the event was postponed to a new date – August 8, 2020. However, the epidemiological situation in Poland and also worldwide did not allow the event at the PGE Narodowy at that time. The event was postponed to 2021 – on August 7.

We are currently analyzing all the possibilities related to the event scheduled for August 7 this year at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw, which will not be held due to the pandemc and restrictions related to the possibility of entering the stadium for all fans. I would like to reassure fans who ask about the status of their tickets – they remain valid for each date of the Warsaw SGP and no one will be deprived of the opportunity to watch the FIM Speedway Grand Prix at the PGE Narodowy or make a return if necessary – explains Michał Sikora, President of the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Association. – The current pandemic situation means that we analyze all organizational and schedule variants related to the event. We are asking the fans for understanding and a moment of patience, because we want to work out a solution that will be the most relevant for everyone – added Michał Sikora.

Paul Bellamy, Senior Vice President of Motorsports Events at IMG, added: “We’re sad to not be returning to Warsaw in 2021 and know the event will be missed by riders and fans this year. We fully support the PZM in their decision. The ongoing uncertainty around social distancing, venue capacity and other pandemic-related restrictions posed multiple challenges to staging an event of this scale and installing a temporary track in a multi-purpose stadium.”

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix is set to return on July 16 and 17 as the 2021 season kicks off in Prague with a double-header at the Anlas Czech Republic FIM Speedway Grand Prix, taking place at Marketa Stadium.
