FIM Speedway World Cup – August 29 at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw
“We do it best, and Poles love these events – we’re specialists in them.”
The best speedway event, adored by Polish fans, is coming back. On August 29, the FIM Speedway World Cup will take place at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. Tickets are available at very attractive prices – starting from just 69 PLN.
The formula is simple, familiar, and popular: four teams, each with four riders and one reserve, competing in a classic 20-heat format. What more could you want to enjoy speedway in the company of 50,000 fans at PGE Narodowy?
“Great support, fans dressed in white and red, and a good atmosphere – because unforgettable moments are coming. These are the events we Poles truly love,” says Michał Sikora, President of the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (PZM).
“We won in 2023 in Wrocław, and now we’re returning to PGE Narodowy, where we’ve hosted Grand Prix tournaments every year. We’re returning in a symbolic sense, because the Polish Speedway National Team has only competed there once officially – in 2016 against the Rest of the World – and lost. So, we’ve got something to prove this time, and the level of responsibility is completely different,” Sikora adds.
Affordable tickets starting from 69 PLN are already on sale. In this format – the FIM Speedway World Cup, held every three years – Poland will compete at PGE Narodowy for the first and probably the last time. Organizers emphasize that since the Polish team specializes in the SWC and almost always wins it (nine times!), this is truly the best speedway event.
“As Poles, we organize it best, providing optimal conditions for the fans – especially at PGE Narodowy,” says Stanisław Chomski, who won gold in 2005 with the Polish national team as coach.
“This is sport – anything can happen. We need patience, calmness, and faith in our team,” he adds for ekstraliga.pl.
Legendary coach Marek Cieślak also emphasizes:
“For me, the top events are still the Speedway Grand Prix and the Speedway World Cup,” he tells ekstraliga.pl.
The Speedway World Cup was held annually from 2001 to 2017, before being replaced by the Speedway of Nations format (2018–2022). The SWC returned in 2023 and is now held every three years.
The first winner of the SWC was Australia (2001). In the most recent edition (Wrocław 2023), Poland triumphed ahead of Great Britain and Denmark.
Poland holds the record for the most SWC victories – 9 titles.
In total medals, three nations lead with 13 each – Poland, Denmark, and Sweden.
Individually, Jarosław Hampel holds the record with 6 gold medals.
At the 2026 Speedway World Cup Final (August 29, PGE Narodowy, Warsaw), Poland will face Australia, the winner of the 2025 Speedway of Nations in Toruń.
The remaining two finalists will be decided through semifinals in Germany and Latvia.
SWC 2026 participants:
Poland (host), Australia (SON 2025 winner), plus two teams from the semifinalists: Germany, Latvia, Sweden, Great Britain, Norway, Denmark, Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
What’s the recipe for success, according to Marek Cieślak?
“In the past, we needed to take the pressure off our riders, make them believe in their abilities. After all, they were beating these same rivals in the league – so why not in the World Cup?” he tells ekstraliga.pl.
“The riders eventually realized they could win against the world’s best. Our opponents – Sweden with Fredrik Lindgren and Antonio Lindbäck, Denmark with Nicki Pedersen, Hans Andersen, Niels Kristian Iversen, or Australia with Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Ryan Sullivan – all looked impressive. But our main advantage was the mental shift. Our wins didn’t come easily; we had to fight for them, sometimes using the joker rule to edge ahead. Poland was on a roll back then – and we truly earned it,” Cieślak recalls.
